Direction Indicators/Signals
Show Me: How you would check that the direction indicators are working.
Answer: Turn on hazard lights and walk around the car checking individually.
Additional Notes:
If asked what you would do if they were not working then you would use hand signals;
and know how the indicator sounds if a bulb has gone.
Parking Brake
Show Me: How you would check the parking brake for excessive wear.
Answer: Demonstrate by applying parking brake (with foot on foot brake), when it
is fully applied it secures itself and is not at the end of the working travel.
Additional Notes:
Excessive wear will be shown by the fact that the hand brake will travel too far
upwards.
Horn
Show Me: How you would check that the horn is working
Answer: Show were the horn is and that you would press it. Only press if asked to
do so.
Additional Notes:Check on a regular basis.
Power Assisted Steering
Show Me: Explain how you would check that the powering steering is working before
starting a journey.
Answer: Gentle pressure on steering wheel maintained while the engine is started,
this should result in a slight but noticeable movement as the system begins to operate.
Additional Notes: If the steering becomes heavy the system may not be working correctly.
Turning the wheel just after moving off will give an immediate indication that the
system is working
Brake Lights
Show Me: How you would check that the brake lights are working on this car
Answer: Operate brake pedal, make use of reflections in windows, garage doors etc.
Or ask someone to help
Additional Notes: Simply tell what you have to do. You will not be able to actually
do it. Check weekly and before/after long journey.
